As a San Carlos resident for the past 14 years I have volunteered for our wonderful City at community events and as a member, then Chairperson, of the Transportation and Circulation Commission where together with my fellow members we made the community safer for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers. Our most satisfying accomplishment, I believe, was our work and acquisition of funding for projects immediately around Brittan Acres and Arundel Elementary schools. When my daughter entered the San Carlos School District my efforts switched to being a classroom volunteer, volunteer at school events and a Healthy Cities Tutor. As a Construction Manager/Licensed Professional Engineer I have developed broad experience in planning, funding, finance and operations that I have been able to apply in all aspects of my volunteer efforts and with your help I believe I can apply those skills to benefit our schools. Over the next four years the SCSD faces a number of challenges, particularly:

1) Finishing the construction of new schools to allow for a larger student population

2) Tempering the rush for the latest fad in education by emphasizing a discussion on proven basics

3) Continue to build a financial reserve while starting a grass roots discussion on alternative public school funding.

I believe that California has a fundamentally flawed education and education funding system. My observation of the SCSD Board over the last four years has proven to me that no discussion let alone a revolt against this flawed system is forthcoming. My experience growing up as a non-native English speaker in local public schools gives me a unique perspective on a multitude of school programs and many ideas where education can be improved for those students/families that speak English as a second language. The simple truth is as my daughter enters 4th grade this fall I want to ensure, to the best of my ability, that she and all her school mates have the very best education possible that will ultimately provide opportunities and develop them into the best human beings they can be. If you remember only one thing I offer uncompromising integrity to the school children of the District and to the community that supports them. I would be honored to serve both.
