My Pledge to California Veterans

By Louis L. Dominguez

Candidate for State Senator; District 35

This information is provided by the candidate
There are too many California Veterans on the streets of our state. Many are not familiar with the programs that are available to them from our state veterans programs. This I will change.
As a California veteran, I have been the recipient of some of the wonderful programs our state has to offer for those of us who served. As your State Senator I want to protect what we have and answer the needs we have not met. Most important is to be sure all veteran know what is available at each level of government. I served as a combat infantryman in Vietnam and I left far too many friends behind. Not all of them died in combat. Some came back in body but with broken minds. Unfortunately, we still have veterans coming back this way. You see them on the streets, under bridges, trying to survive on the edges of our communities. We need to work with federal and local governments to provide the tools to remove this stain on our honor.

The state operates a number of excellent homes for veterans. Most deal with sick veterans but there are three independent living homes, and we need more, especially near to major cities so veterans can live close to their families.

The National Cemetery in Los Angeles is full, and the next nearest is in Riverside. This is unfair for the families who want to honor their husbands, fathers, brothers, or even close friends. The federal government still has land near the existing cemetery and I will do all I can to convince them they need to make this available for an expansion.

Veterans have served their country and have voluntarily placed themselves between us and those who would do us harm. We, in turn, must support them now that they need us.
