Smart Voter Full Biography for Frank Farina

Candidate for
State Representative; Pennsylvania State House of Representatives; District 112

This information is provided by the candidate

Frank Farina is a life-long resident of Northeast Pennsylvania, who currently serves as the State Representative of the 115th Legislative district. Born in Archbald, Frank was raised by a single Mother, who worked two jobs to support Frank and his sister, Kim. His Mother taught Frank the values of hard work, dedication to family and church, and working together with others to build a strong community.

Frank graduated from Valley View High School in Archbald and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Penn State University in 1999. He founded Farina Landscaping in Jessup in 2004, and he is proud to have advanced the business into what it is today; a business licensed by the state Department of Agriculture, and a member of the Scranton Chamber of Commerce.

Frank was elected in November 2012 to represent Pennsylvania's 115th Legislative District, which includes Lackawanna and Wayne counties. Due to re-districting, Frank is now running for the 112th Legislative District, in order to represent most of his old district and to continue to serve his constituents.

The 115th District currently stretches from part of Carbondale south to Gouldsboro, and includes Archbald, Blakely, Dickson City, Eynon, Jessup, Lake Ariel, Mayfield, Mellow Park, Newfoundland, and Waymart. The new 112th district will now cover only Lackawanna County.

As such, the new boundaries for the 112th will cover the area he has represented since being elected in 2012, including Archbald, Eynon, Sturges, Blakely, Peckville, Jessup, Olyphant, Throop, Dunmore, and parts of Scranton.

As state representative, he has taken up the cause of Teen Suicide and introduced a bill aimed at reducing school-aged suicides. Frank states: "Teen suicide has become a tragic and all-too-common news story. This bill will ensure our teachers receive the necessary training to observe potential suicidal behavior and, hopefully, prevent the pain and suffering for many families and friends of our youth by heading off potential suicides."

Since being elected, Frank hosts monthly veterans support programs in his constituent service office so that veterans and their families can learn about a variety of programs and resources they may not be aware of that are available as part of their veterans benefit package. He also holds frequent meetings where he answers questions about Medicare with his constituents, as well as holding coat drives to help those in need.

Frank is currently Secretary of the Tourism and Recreational Development Committee, as well as a member of the Game and Fisheries and the Environmental Resource and Energy Committees.

Frank has a five point plan to represent the 112th district. His priorities are: Providing a Quality Education to Every Child, Creating Family Sustaining Jobs, Keeping Our Communities Safe and Growing, Protecting our Seniors, Veterans and Children, and Protecting Our Environment and Game Lands.

He is an active member of his community and his church, Christ the King Parish, and belongs to both the Family of St. Anthony and the St. Ubaldo Society. Frank is also a member of the Archbald/Eynon Lions Club.

Frank Farina is an avid hunter and fisherman and often joins his fellow members of the Lone Pine Hunting Club. He is a member of the NRA, as well as a member and sponsor of the National Wild Turkey Federation.

Frank and his wife Karla are the parents of three children: Antonio, Rocco and Alexa. Karla is a health and physical education teacher at her alma mater, Valley View High School, where she was a member of the track and field team and also a cheerleader. She is the founder of the Valley View HPE club and co-founder of the Lou Ruspi Jr. foundation for suicide prevention and awareness.
