Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Frank Farina

Candidate for
State Representative; Pennsylvania State House of Representatives; District 112

This information is provided by the candidate

I am looking forward to once again representing the people of this great community as the Representative of the 112th district in Harrisburg. I will continue to bring family values, hard work ethic, experience and leadership, to create a better Pennsylvania. I understand the problems that working families face in the district, because I'm one of you. I will be working for each and every resident every day to make a better Pennsylvania.

I have a Five Point Plan to make our vision a reality:

Providing a Quality Education to Every Child Creating Family Sustaining Jobs Keeping Our Communities Safe and Growing Protecting Seniors, Veterans and Children Protecting Our Environment and Game Lands

Providing a Quality Education to Every Child

  • Restore the Funding to our Public Schools. Without the proper resources, our children will not receive the education they need and deserve.
  • Continue to encourage districts to restore art, athletic and music programs by seeking alternative funding sources like corporate or business sponsorships.
  • Promote alternatives like the Career Technology Center of Lackawanna County which prepares students for immediate and viable careers after High School.
  • Develop a youth intervention strategy that provides the support and assistance needed for at-risk youth to break the cycles of poverty and violence and help them become productive members of the community.
  • Support programs that provide assistance to students seeking higher education for Trade and Technical Schools, Community Colleges as traditional four-year colleges.

Creating Family Sustaining Jobs

  • Offer tax incentives like Keystone Opportunity Zones and Tax Increment Financing to larger business and corporations to lure them to the area and to take advantage of our highly trained and motivated work force.
  • Provide support and tax breaks for small business owners to start new businesses and expand current ones. Expand Incubator programs for start-ups like the Scranton Enterprise Center.
  • Encourage our students to look at trades schools and apprentice programs as an excellent source for training in this highly competitive job market.
  • Advocate consumers to buy local goods and services which helps to support a healthy local economy and keeps local people working. Always remember the ABC's of Job Creation: American Made + Buy Local = Create Jobs.

Keeping Our Communities Safe and Growing

  • Provide our police forces with the necessary tools and most up-to-date technology to fight and prevent crime.
  • Explore regionalized policing programs where smaller communities can share resources like D.U.I. processing centers.
  • Expand youth intervention programs and after school programs to keep our children engaged in activities that keep them off the streets.
  • Stricter probationary programs for drug and alcohol dependency.
  • Enhance job training programs for non-violent offenders to reduce the recidivism rate in our prisons.

Protecting Seniors, Veterans and Children

  • Pressure Harrisburg to find ways to restore the funding that has been cut from our Public School System.
  • Persuade our Governor to sing my Teen Suicide Prevention Bill into law and monitor its implementation throughout the state.
  • Continue to hold job fairs and meetings to put our veterans to work and insure they are receiving the benefits that they are entitled to.
  • Assist Seniors with their applications for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate program, as well as assisting those who qualify with applying for the LIHEAP home heating assistance program.
  • Expand the topics of meetings at my constituent office to keep Seniors informed on important issues and programs that offer assistance.

Preserving Our Environment and Game Lands

  • Expand the use of renewable and clean energy sources like wind turbines to reduce our region's dependency on fossil fuels and limit the effects that current fuel sources emit into our air, water, and land.
  • Conduct independent studies on the effects of Gas Drilling to fully expose the effects on our environment.
  • Stronger penalties for companies that pollute land and water.
  • Institute a "smart growth" plan to prevent overdevelopment.
  • Encourage corporate sponsorship for upkeep of parks and game lands.
  • Expand youth education programs for hunting and fishing so the next generation learns the safe and legal way to enjoy the outdoors.
