My Goals

By Timothy R. "Tim" Silva

Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Barstow

This information is provided by the candidate
Improved Infrastructure and New Development.
To continue the improvements to the city's infrastructure.

When I was first elected, the city's infrastructure was not ready for major development. I've worked hard, especially as a member of the street committee, to improve the city's infrastructure and that process continues today. With improved infrastructure, we're not just informing developers that we welcome them, but we're demonstrating that we've prepared for them and that we can see to their impact on our community.

To continue the streamline process of planning and lower cost for developers.

Developers do not like a lot of red tape and regulations. We have streamlined our building and safety department. I have requested a review of our development impact fee study. The study for the fees is outdated and I suppose that the cost to development would be more reasonable with a current and accurate new growth study.

To continue to enter into negotiation and development agreements with developers.

With the redevelopment agencies dissolved, we can't sit back and wait for developers. We must seek them out and when necessary enter into agreements to both entice the developer and protect the city's interest. Not all agreements will come to fruition, but we are currently negotiating and that show promise for future jobs and growth.
