Elect Peter Conrad to the KPPCSD Board

By Peter Conrad

Candidate for Director; Kensington Police Protection and Community Services District

Kensington is in financial trouble!

For the past two years Kensington's budgets have exceeded our projected revenues and depleted required financial reserves. Much of this is the result of expenditures on fees for lawyers and outside consultants. I would work to bring budget priorities in line with community needs.

The community is divided on almost every issue, discouraging community participation in decisions that are important to us all.

  • A recent survey circulated to residents indicates that the community overwhelmingly favors the retention of our present refuse contractor, Bay View. We need to agree to a reasonable contract with them. If I were on the Board, I would not vote to open up the contract to bids. We could end up with a trash collector that we don't like at a higher cost!

  • Measure L was placed on the ballot in June in order to raise two million dollars of bond money to remodel the Community Building/"Youth Hut." Rather than simply responding to community wishes and needs, the expensive design proposed a transformation of this modest building into a revenue-producing party venue. Kensington voters decisively rejected this idea.

Maintenance of the Community Building has been neglected over the years, and accessibility, code, and functional improvements are much needed. With my long experience as an architect, I can see that the Youth Hut requires serious seismic reinforcements. In fact, I believe that the Community Room roof is in danger of collapse in a major earthquake. Making the building safe and functional must be a top priority.

At its September meeting the Board discussed its Policies and Procedure Manual, which is being revised. I think that clear policies and procedures that will govern the actions of the Board are necessary. The public needs to have a reasonable expectation that the Board actions will be consistent and predictable.

The most important thing I do if elected may well be to LISTEN.

A vote for Peter Conrad is a vote for Cooperation , Civility, and Common Sense.
