Steve Neal has been a community and labor leader in the Los Angeles area for decades. Since his election in 2010, Steve, a Compton native, has served North Long Beach on the Long Beach City Council where he has an accomplished record supporting neighborhoods, small businesses, and working families.

As a Councilmember Neal is the author and creator of the Long Beach Foreclosure Registry Program, the Long Beach Liquor Store Modernization Program, and the North Long Beach Business Alliance. He has an unmatched record on the issues of jobs and economic development, bringing together business, labor, clergy, and community leaders on programs that lead to living-wage job growth, including the Uptown Property and Business Improvement District in Long Beach and the "Getting Back to Work" regional job summit. As a Councilmember for the City of Long Beach, he also sits on the Board of the Southern California Association of Governments, where he works with leaders from other cities across the region to develop collective approaches to solving the problems that affect people across Southern California.

Councilmember Neal currently serves as the Field Director for AFSCME-UDW Local 3930, working for homecare providers across Southern California. He is a longtime leader in the labor movement since his first election as a shop steward in the Retail Clerks Union Local 324. He worked his way up the ranks as a member of CWA Local 9586 to become Executive VP and served in the LA County Federation of Labor.

Councilmember Neal is the Assistant Pastor of S.E.A.M. Faith Family Church. He and his wife, Katonja, live in Long Beach and are the parents of five daughters, one son, and have ten grandchildren.
