Environment

By Damian Carroll

Candidate for Member of the State Assembly; District 45

This information is provided by the candidate
I will not just be a vote in support of the environment in Sacramento - I will be a leader in the effort to find creative solutions to our environmental challenges.
The San Fernando Valley boasts access to some of the state's most beautiful open spaces + from the sprawling hillsides of Las Virgenes community to the gorgeous Lake Balboa Park to the pristine trails of the Santa Monica Mountains. We are a community that cares deeply about environmental justice, conservation, and open space preservation. And we deserve leaders who will stand up for us on these issues.

My family and I benefit greatly from the conservation work done by leaders before me + bird watching in the Sepulveda Recreation Area, hiking in the Chatsworth Nature Preserve, kayaking the Los Angeles River, and more. I believe that stewardship of the environment is not a standalone issue, but one that impacts all facets of public policy + health, public safety, job creation, education, and quality of life. That's why I will not just be a vote for our environment in the State Legislature; I will be a leader in the effort to find creative solutions to our environmental challenges.

In the State Assembly, I will work to:

  • Prepare our local businesses and industries for the green energy future.

  • Continue to set high goals for production of renewable energy and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

  • Build a 21st century energy infrastructure, including production of renewable energy and a smart grid to distribute it.

  • Preserve our open spaces by working with conservancy groups and local community organizations.

  • Champion Southern California's water conservation measures and fight for a comprehensive water bond that addresses our outdated infrastructure.

  • Improve the permitting process for installing solar systems in homes and businesses.

  • Encourage increased use of alternative transportation modes + such as public transit, biking, and walking + and alternative fuel vehicles.
