Jobs and the Economy

By Damian Carroll

Candidate for Member of the State Assembly; District 45

This information is provided by the candidate
I have real-world business experience that I will put to work to invest in our local businesses. I've spent the last 10 years working side-by-side with business leaders and city, county, and state leaders to create good jobs and protect small businesses.
Our state and local community face unique economic challenges. As we begin to recover from the recession, we need to rebuild an economy that supports the middle-class, encourages large and small business growth, and invests in a workforce for the future. Sustainable economic growth is the only path to creating long-term, good-paying jobs.

I have spent the last decade serving this community on behalf of State Senator Jack Scott, State Assemblymember Mike Feuer, and now City Councilmember Paul Krekorian. I have seen firsthand how the recession hurt our community, and I've worked side-by-side with elected officials and local leaders to create good jobs and protect local businesses. I know what our community needs and I know how to get it done.

In the Assembly, I will support:

  • Increased investment in public infrastructure projects that will ensure public safety and create good paying jobs + roads, water, energy, parks, bridges and schools.

  • Fast tracking infrastructure bonds that have already been sold to get stalled projects moving.

  • Working with CalPERS and CalSTRS to increase investment in infrastructure projects in California to create union jobs.

  • Instituting provisions on state contracts that penalize companies that use state money to outsource jobs to other states or countries.

  • Creating a state program to encourage business to manufacture in California the products that they invent here.

  • Working with employers and legislators to streamline, simplify and speed-up the ability of business to create jobs in California without weakening worker protections or environmental standards.

  • Expanding career technical and vocation education in our public schools to connect students with quality jobs upon high school graduation.

  • Creating a state loan and loan guarantee fund to help manufacturers meet the environmental standards of AB 32 and to build clean energy products such as solar panels and related energy efficiency end-products.
