My name is Richard Alegre. I am 72 yrs. old and I was born in Escondido in 1940. When my parents relocated from Mexico to El Paso, TX, they naturalized and became U.S. citizens. When they moved to Escondido in the late 1930s they proudly raised my 4 brothers and myself in our family home which was located about 75 yards from where City Hall stands today.

After graduating from Escondido High in 1958, I served my Country in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 to 1964 and afterwards served in the active reserves for about 7 years as an aircraft mechanic.

I am also classified as a Vietnam Veteran. From the year 1966 to 1979, I worked for the Navy thru Civil Service as an aircraft overhaul mechanic. I also served in the Army Air National Guard in Stockton, CA for a year. Three of my older brothers proudly served in the U.S. Army.

In the 1980s, I was an active member in the Escondido Jaycees and I am an active member in the Escondido Chapter of the American Legion, Post 149 and the VFW, Post 3795.

In 1969 I married my beautiful wife Lydia, and together we have 2 children, Angel 36 and Jessica 30 both were born and raised in Escondido. We also have a daughter in-law Jessica, and a son in-law, Andy. All together we have 4 Grandsons and another Grandchild on the way.

In closing I would like to say that I love Escondido and I'm very proud and happy that I was born and raised here. I would love to get our city back the way it was when I was growing up here, where we are not afraid to go to our parks. I would like to get a sense of community back to our wonderful city, and try to make sure that we all live our lives comfortable and safe.
