I have a unique blend of Silicon Valley leadership experience, local entrepreneurial business experience and a commitment to public service.

My professional career started in the private sector working for technology companies in the Silicon Valley. I started as an individual contributor and worked my way up to Senior Manager, managing several direct reports over multiple teams in a variety of business and technical environments. I have been a leader in large fortune 500 companies, mid-size companies and even Silicon Valley startup environments. In these roles I developed a reputation as a decisive leader and a respected manager who knew how to get things done.

In the recent past I took advantage of my entrepreneurial spirit, starting a small business. In this role, I have learned how to run a business, negotiate to get things done and the value of sound financial management practices.

I went back to school in 2002 and obtained my Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, an accomplishment I take a great deal of pride in.

There is a lot more to my life than my business career. I enjoy a lot of time serving the community.

Growing up, my mother taught me the value of giving back to the community, and that is a lesson I've truly embraced over the recent years. In my earlier years, I spent several Christmas days cooking and serving food to the homeless for the St. Vincent de Paul foundation. When I started my career in the Silicon Valley, I organized several clothing drives and worked with my mother to make computers and technology available to those who did not have access.

Today, I serve several community roles for education and business. In 2010 I was elected on the board of the San Bruno Education Foundation. In the short time that I have been on the board, I have worked to establish several business partnerships that created additional funding opportunities for the foundation and dollars for the district. As the El Crystal elementary school PTA treasurer, I oversaw the financials of a PTA that doubled it's funding while supporting important programs like art, math, science and technology. I have been a visible supporter of the San Bruno PTA/PTO council, a coalition of Parent/Teacher organizations representing each school in the district.

Lastly, I serve on the board of directors for the San Bruno Chamber of Commerce. Here I have worked to increase sponsorship to events like the Taste of San Bruno event and develop out of the box ways to add value to our client businesses.

In my spare time, I enjoy backpacking and the outdoors. In recent years, I have hiked the Pacific Crest trail and reached the summit of Mt. Whitney, the highest point in the continental U.S. I have traversed a great deal of the Ventana Wilderness and the Los Padres National Forest, some of the most challenging hiking in California.

I am a fourth generation Bay Area resident and graduated from Mills High School in Millbrae.

I Respectfully ask for your vote on November 8, 2011.

As a parent I firmly believe that a successful education comes when we all work together to help our children become the very best they can be. Vote for Joseph Capote, San Bruno Park School Board.
