Rosemary Ybarra Fickas Announces Candidacy for Hartnell Community College Board 2011

(SALINAS) Today, Rosemary Ybarra Fickas officially announced her candidacy for Hartnell Community College Board District 4 election for November 8, 2011. District 4 represents the areas of North Salinas near Santa Rita School District and portions of East Salinas in the Alisal School District area.

"I am excited about providing the Hartnell Community College Board a new direction and much needed change that will ensure our community gets that second chance in life through a better education," said Rosemary Ybarra Fickas.

Rosemary has already received the endorsements from: California State Superintendent of Schools Tom Torlakson, Monterey County Supervisor Lou Calcagno, Former Monterey County Office of Education Superintendent Dr. Bill Barr and Salinas Union High School Board members Jim Reavis and Philip Tabera. In addition, Salinas business leaders Jeff Gilles, Tom Martella and Bill Ramsey have also endorsed.

Rosemary Ybarra Fickas and her family have lived in Salinas for many years. Rosemary comes from a very active family that has been involved in public service throughout Salinas. As a young child Rosemary attended Sherwood Elementary School, Alisal Elementary, El Sausal Middle School and graduated from Salinas Union High School. Rosemary was born in Phoenix, Arizona and moved to Salinas with her parents and sisters where they lived on Del Monte Ave in East Salinas as young teenagers.

Rosemary worked for the City of Salinas for over 15 years and then the Salinas Union High School District as a classified employee and strong union member for over 22 years, and most recently now for Mann Packing.

Rosemary has now been living in North Salinas for the past 20 years.
