I was raised in Chula Vista, graduated from Hilltop High and attended Southwestern College. I moved to Lemon Grove the year we incorporated. My wife Cheryl and I raised and educated our 3 boys here and were very active in parent volunteer organizations.

We ran our family owned auto repair business in Lemon Grove from 1981 till we closed it in 2006. The reason for closing was that the rental property we were located on was being sold and the automotive business had changed so much making it difficult for a small shop to survive. Today I am the Service Manager for a small shop near downtown.

I began my public service as a volunteer leader at my children's schools. I was on School Site Council at Golden Ave Elementary, PTA president at Lemon Grove Middle School, President of Lemon Grove Music Parents (band support) and Parliamentarian for the PTA Council of the Lemon Grove School District. I was also on the Chamber of Commerce board and chairman of the Legislative Committee there for a several years. I was a member of the Lemon Grove Kiwanis and a past president. I was also a member of the Library Committee, Old Time Days committee, City School Collaboration Committee, a Lemon Grove Branding Committee and a redevelopment committee I don't remember the name of.

I was first elected to Lemon Grove School Board in 1996 and re-elected in 2000. During that time I served one rotation as Board President. I was elected to Lemon Grove City Council in 2002 and re-elected in 2006. I've served two rotations as Mayor Pro Tem and am the current Mayor Pro Tem. During my time on council I've represented Lemon Grove on numerous committees, boards and commissions listed below:

  • For a short time I was as Board Member of ARJIS until it rolled into Sandag under the Public Safety Committee
  • Shortly after taking office I was appointed to the Regional Energy Policy Advisory Committee (REPAC) that developed the energy section of the Regional Comprehensive Plan for Sandag. I spearheaded the formation of the Energy Advisory Committee at Sandag from that committee.
  • For several years I was the alternate board member on MTS but gave that up as things got busy at Sandag.
  • I was the alternate on the Heartland JPA.
  • I've represented Lemon Grove on Sandag as an alternate member of the board and as a member of the Regional Planning Committee since 2002
  • I served two years as the chairman of the Regional Planning Committee. I'm proud to say that the Smart Growth Incentive Map and Smart Growth Incentive Grant criteria were completed on my watch. I currently serve as Vice Chair on that committee under Mayor Janney of Imperial Beach.
  • I've been a commissioner on the Metro Wastewater Commission and JPA since 2002 and am currently the Vice Chair.

As my history shows I have a varied background and broad experience in many aspects of government, business ownership, business management and education

In today's political climate it's important for the public to know that my elected position is a part time job not a career. No one, however, should ever mistake a city council job as a part time commitment. My history of dedication to community shows that I have the commitment and time to get the job done.

I am a manager by occupation, mechanic by profession and proud of it. Whatever stereotype or image that may bring to mind, no one should ever doubt my ability to lead or to represent Lemon Grove in the best possible way. I sit in several leadership positions among elected leaders throughout the county. Regional leadership positions do not come without demonstration of ability and knowledge.

I like to say " Ask a mechanic, we fix things"
