Dick Daniels was elected to the Escondido City Council in 2006 and currently serves as Mayor Pro Tem.

He serves on four Council standing subcommittees: Budget, Economic Development, California Center for the Arts Liaison, and Schools Liaison. He is also a member of the Council's ad hoc committees for Palomar Pomerado Health System liaison, and San Luis Rey River Litigation, and is a former member of the League of California Cities' Revenue and Taxation Committee.

Long active in the community, Dick is a member of the California State University San Marcos University Council, a founding member of the Escondido Charitable Foundation, past president of the 220-member Escondido Rotary Club (the largest service club of any kind in North San Diego County), and past chairman of the Escondido Chamber of Commerce.

Dick is a former newspaper reporter and editor, and currently owns and operates a public relations consulting firm. He was honored by colleagues as San Diego County Public Relations Professional of the Year in 1999 and for lifetime community service in 2005. He is a graduate of San Jose State University and completed graduate work at the University of Missouri School of Journalism.

An Escondido resident since 1990. Dick and his wife, Kathy, have been married for 34 years and have two adult sons, Bobby and Michael -- and their first grandson, Wyatt, born May 31, 2010.
