Improve Student Achievement/Change School Culture

By Steven Green

Candidate for Board Member; Corona-Norco Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Let us revisit what worked in the past and borrow ideas from other countries to fix education.
Students achieve best when they are interested in learning. We need to add more electives such as music, dance, art, auto shop, wood shop, Biblical literature, etc.. to prepare students for the real world. Education today tries to fit all students into the same mold, preparing for college. We need to change the culture of schools by making school more inclusive and offering more real world tangible skills so students can use their education no matter the field they decide upon. We use to have the greatest education in the world. We need to revisit what we did in education long ago. If students feel they are in school for a purpose (learning trade skills, applying math to mechanics and construction, advancing in math through music and the arts, introducing more AP classes and giving students opportunity to earn college credits) then the culture of the schools will change.
