Robert T. Doyle has served as Sheriff of Marin County since 1996. He joined the Marin County Sheriff's Office in 1969, after serving in Vietnam in the U.S. Army. Bob worked his way through the ranks in every bureau and division of the organization as Deputy, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain and served as Undersheriff from 1989 to 1996.

During his time as Sheriff, crime in Marin County has remained low and the Sheriff's Office has implemented a number of innovative programs, including community programs to address at-risk youth and prevent crime.

Bob was President of the California State Sheriffs' Association from 2004-2005 and is currently chairman of the Legislative Committee. He served two terms as President of the Marin County Police Chiefs' Association.

Bob has received appointments from California Governors to serve as a member of the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training and to represent the State Sheriffs on the State Task Force on Court Facilities. He also is co-chair of the Marin County School/Law Enforcement Partnership, serving alongside Marin County Superintendent of Schools, Mary Jane Burke.

Bob was born in San Francisco and raised in Daly City; he has a degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Sonoma State University. He has is longtime resident of Novato, where he lives with his wife, Linda. Bob has an adult daughter, Caitlin.
