Citizens for an Informed Yorktown

A non partisan organization whose primary goal is to encourage greater awareness of, and participation in, town affairs.

  • Has attended all town board meetings (regular and work sessions) since October, 2007.
  • Manages web site (http://www.ciyinfo.org) that posts detailed summaries of all town board and planning board meetings.
  • Calls attention to forgotten and overlooked issues by asking questions and making statements at town board meetings

Champion of open and transparent government

  • Uses the Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) to uncover and publicize how our elected officials are spending our tax dollars.
  • Successfully challenged the town when elected officials violated the Freedom of Information Law.
  • Provides ongoing guidance to town residents on how to effectively use the Freedom of Information Law.
  • Monitors town board compliance with the Open Meetings Law.

Unsewered Hallocks Mill Homeowners
  • Manages an email list and website to keep all unsewered residents, regardless of whether or not they want sewers, informed on the status of the sewer issue.
  • Assists those residents who want sewers in their ongoing lobbying efforts in Yorktown, White Plains and with the NYC Department of Environmental Protection.
  • Represents the homeowners at meetings of the Northern Westchester Watershed Committee. Lobbies for additional funding for a sewer district

Committee for a Yorktown Town Administrator

A non partisan group that carried on an educational program about how a town administrator would function in Yorktown.

  • Researched town programs and identified management reforms that would eliminate wasteful spending, save money and improve the overall delivery of services.

League of Women Voters of Yorktown (As Susan Stetson)

  • President of the League
  • Chairperson of the League's Town Government Committee
  • Drafted Yorktown's first wetlands ordinance
  • Lobbied for the first public notification law
  • Lobbied for a stronger code enforcement program
  • Encouraged greater public participation in the planning process
  • Lobbied for the creation of a Department of Public Works

Personal Information

A 39 year resident of Yorktown, Susan is married, has three grown children who graduated from the Yorktown School District and two delightful grandchildren. She has a Master of Arts degree from the University of California at Berkeley and a Master of Public Administration degree from Pace University.

A former Peace Corps Volunteer and Vista Volunteer, Susan's professional life, both as a stay-at-home and working mom, has focused on her people, communications and marketing skills. In addition to her experience as a newspaper reporter and Director of Communications for state and national trade associations, for many years she operated her own communications consulting business for a diverse group of clients.

In 1992, together with her husband, she started a publishing company that has successfully marketed an innovative series of special interest books to an international audience.

In 2009, at age 69, she decided to scale back her business commitments and devote her full time energy to restoring nonpartisan good government to Yorktown.
