GANGS

By Michael Richard Amerian

Candidate for City Attorney; City of Los Angeles

This information is provided by the candidate
Problem: Gang Violence

Solution: Intervention, Prosecution and Injunctions

We have over 30,000 gang members in the City of Los Angeles. As the only candidate who is currently a gang prosecutor for the City, I bring the most relevant experience to the office.

First, we must attack the ability of gangs to recruit new members by using tools such as gang injunctions, job training and anti-truancy programs to divert potential and newer gang members away from gang life so that they can become productive members of society.

When intervention fails, we must continue prosecuting hard-core gang members using a zero tolerance approach and enhanced punishments wherever appropriate.
