Youth

By Leonard Ray McNeil

Candidate for Council Member; City of San Pablo

This information is provided by the candidate
The entire community should contribute to youth development.
I support the establishment of a youth center in San Pablo which will serve as a central location for information, resources, recreation, academic enrichment and training. I support a summer youth employment program. I support a Youth Commission as a vehicle to empower our community sons and daughters. Certain factors are critical for young people's successful growth, development and socialization in making the transition from adolescence to constructive adult life. They include safety, supportive relationships, meaningful involvement, skills building and community involvement. To help youth develop their full potential, our community must also provide avenues for support, empowerment, boundaries and expectations, constructive use of time, commitment to learning, positive values, social competencies and positive identity. This involves local government, the faith-based community, schools, community-based organizations, businesses, parents and the young people themselves.
