Board Member; Hayward Unified School District; 2 Year Short Term

A native of Colorado, Sheila recently retired after working for the past 15 years in education in various teaching capacities, including an early intervention specialist; special education teacher; substitute teacher in Hayward; and a physical education teacher.

She earned her Associate of Arts Degree from Chabot College, a Bachelor's of Science degree and teaching certificate from California State University, East Bay (Hayward campus); and a special education certificate from San Jose State University. Sheila has also completed graduate work in public administration, and course work in accounting.

Sheila has been a member of the PTA, and worked local campaigns for the school board and city council. She has also volunteered in Hayward schools; different hospitals and retirement homes; and at Chabot College's Student Activities (elections, tutoring, field trips). Sheila was part of the successful campaign effort that earned passage of the school bond Measure I by distributing signs and encouraging friends and family to vote.

Sheila and her husband Fred, who is a trustee on the Alameda County Board of Education, have lived in Hayward since 1968. They have been married for 46 years and have two daughters, Stephanie and Sydney, and two grandchildren, all of whom attended Hayward schools.
