City Wide Wireless Internet Service

By Larry Dean Montgomery

Candidate for Councilmember; City of Fremont

This information is provided by the candidate
The citizens, businesses and the city would benefit from having a city wide wireless internet service.
During these hard economic times. The city needs to expands its search for more streams of revenue. The 2008-2009 adopted city budget report shows that it is going to run out of money by the end of 2009, Fremont is going to experience financial shortfalls unless we act now. I am suggesting that we build a wireless internet system similar to the one being installed in the city of San Fransisco. The advertising dollars would pay for the system and bring in a steady revenue stream to the city. During my conversation with Cisco Systems, they said that two options would be available for the internet users of Fremont. Option #1 involves a free or almost free wireless internet service that would have advertising on the home page. Option #2 would provide wireless internet for a fee and there would not be any advertising on that home page. The city home page would be very user friendly and give the user a multitude of information. Such things as traffic reports and emergency information during power outages would benefit everyone. The time has come for city wide wireless internet access.
