Smart Voter Full Biography for Jim Bopp

Candidate for
Member, Republican Party County Central Committee; County of Sacramento; Supervisorial District 4

This information is provided by the candidate

Jim Bopp has been involved in Republican Party activities in Sacramento County since 1992.

He served over 29 years in the Army and is an infantry combat veteran, having served two years in Vietnam. Decorated for valor in combat, he was awarded three Bronze Star Medals, one with "V" device, the Purple Heart, 14 other decorations, awards and service ribbons, and the Combat Infantryman Badge and Airborne Wings.

Entering the Army as a Private, he was commissioned from Infantry Officer Candidate School in 1959 after a 3+ year tour of duty in Germany. Serving in a variety of assignments, including 14 years overseas, he rose through the ranks to Lt Colonel.

Upon retiring from active duty as Deputy Commander of Fort McPherson, Atlanta, Georgia, in late 1983, Jim, his wife, Barbara and two children, then 9 and 7, settled in Citrus Heights, where he began a second career with American Express Financial Advisors. He retired from his practice in early 2003.

At age 27, son Matthew enlisted in the Army and served as an Army Ranger following the attacks of 9-11-2001. He was deployed four times to Afghanistan in combat against Al-Qaeda and Taliban jihadists. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, U.S. and Israeli Airborne Wings, and the coveted Ranger Tab. Completing active duty service in 2006, he lives in Folsom, with his wife and two children, where he is a financial advisor with Merrill Lynch.

Daughter Stephanie is an attorney with a local law firm, married, and resides in North Rocklin.

After the election of 1992, the Bopp family became more involved in political and social issues. Beginning with support of the defense of the unborn and their supportive organizations, it was a natural transition to become involved in Republican Party activities and to support commonsense, conservative candidates.

Since 1994, both Jim, Barbara and daughter Stephanie have participated in the campaigns of good men and women standing for election to local, county, state and national offices, and in Republican volunteer, grass-roots organizations and clubs.

For the past ten years we have been members and supporters of the Sacramento County Republican Party Central Committee, serving as an officer and Barbara serving as the representative of two different Congressmen on the committee.

We stand for election on June 3rd, to the County Republican Party Central Committee for the next two year term in order to continue our voluntary service to our community.
