BIOGRAPHY - RICH DIXON

Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1949. Reared in New York and New Jersey. Attended elementary school and high school in Bayonne, New Jersey (Received honorary high school diploma from Mills High School in 2004). Later attended Chabot College in Hayward, California receiving an Associate in Arts degree in Administration of Justice. Completion of multiple police college level supervisory, management, and leadership courses during law enforcement career.

Married with Children.

Served with the United States Marine Corps from 1968-1971 having served in Vietnam 1968-1969 receiving six Vietnam era awards. Also served with the United States Army Reserve 1978-1980 assigned to "Prepared Readiness Training Unit," assessing other area Army Reserve Units for Readiness.

Over 30 years expericence in community and police services. For over 25 years I dedicated myself to the City of Millbrae as a Peace Officer. In that capacity, I took an oath to protect life and property and to serve the best interest of our great community. Positions held over the years were; Trainer, Instructor, Investigator, Public Information Officer (Appearing on many Bay Area television channel news broadcasts), Community-Oriented Policing Officer, Millbrae Chamber of Commerce Liaison Officer, Police Watch Commander, S.W.A.T Team Leader, etc.

Currently, I am employed at NASA/Ames as a contract Federal Law Enfocement Operations Lieutenant,managing/supervising police and security personnel. I transitioned into this position approximately four years ago,after retiring as a Police Sergeant from the Millbrae Police Dept. My position at NASA plays a vital role in overseeing police and security operations. Part of my job discription is to protect life, assets, dignitary protection/security, responsibility for security of classified information/ projects, and to enforce state and federal laws.

Over the years I have been honored recipient of countless community service awards related to my time with the City of Millbrae. Some of those awards are as follows:

  • 1988 Millbrae Peace Officer of the Year
  • 1989 Millbrae Lions Club Police Officer of the Year
  • 1991 Honors Award-San Mateo and Santa Clara County's Child Advocacy Council
  • 1993 Letter of Recognition- ACLU of Northern California
  • 1996 Life Saving Award
  • 1998 City of Millbrae Employee Achievement Award
  • 1999 Peninsula Council Lions Club Police Community Service Award
  • 1999 California Attorney General's Peace Officer Certificate of Commendation Award
  • 2000 California Peace Officer"s and Sheriff's Association Award of Distinction
  • 2000 Honorable Mention - "Hometown Video Festival" for host of "COP TALK" Cable TV.
  • 2002 Chief Special Agent's Association of Northenrn California Community Service Award
  • 2003 Millbrae School District Award of Recognition
  • 2004 Millbrae Chamber of Commerce and Millbrae Business Community Certificate of Appreciation
  • 2004 Multiple awards of recognition for public service from Public and Political entities upon retirement.
  • 2004 San Mateo County Trial Lawyer,s Association "Peace Officer Of the Year Award"
  • 2004 SecTek NASA/Ames "Lieutenant of the Year Award"

For 5 years I hosted the City of Millbrae's community cable television program " COP TALK", a live and replay program sponsored by the Millbrae Police Department, which discussed police and community issues. Program was televised locally and throughout San Mateo county via Peninsula cable TV. Some of the topics of discussion were Domestic Violence,Violence in the work place, Community conflict resolution, Rape crisis/trauma, Family crisis intervention/suicide prevention, Road rage/Air rage, Child protective sevices/Juvenile issues, Adult protective services/Elder issues, Homelessness/Shelters, Judicial systems, Crime Stoppers/wanted persons, Safety issues, Crime prevention tips, etc. These programs were so pertinent, relevant, and timeless, that these programs, "The Best of COP TALK," can sometimes be seen as re-runs on cable TV from time to time.

Conducted neighborhood/community talk forums for residents, service clubs, senior groups, schools, and businesses.
