Candidate for
Councilmember; City of Hermosa Beach

My name is Michelle Keegan, and I am running for Hermosa Beach City Council. I grew up in Pennsylvania and am not related to any other Keegans in the neighborhood. I am running because I want to ensure that city council deals professionally with the numerous challenges we face, and refrains from negativity and personal acrimony that have detracted from the current City Council's efforts and rapport with the community.

I have worked for the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee in Pennsylvania and have interned at the Institute for Policy Studies in Washington, D.C. Locally, I was introduced to the city's workings through Leadership Hermosa. I am a goal-oriented but consensus-building team player who isn't afraid to aggressively tackle issues.

Who I Am

I am a 39 year old South Bay businesswoman and entrepreneur. I own a technology firm that markets computer networking equipment and am also co-owner of the Marina del Rey Flyer, a passenger ferry service to Catalina Island. I attended Smith College in Massachussetts and California State University, Dominguez Hills.

My parents who still live in Pennsylvania, taught me to value honesty, hard work, and ethical behavior. My father is a retired Orthopedic Surgeon and former Air Force physician. My mother previously taught elementary school and has been a member of the local school board for 21 years! My brother and his family live in Fullerton, CA. Strong family ties allow me to appreciate Hermosa's small town charm and family-friendly atmosphere.
