My Thoughts on Improving Hermosa

By Michelle Keegan

Candidate for Councilmember; City of Hermosa Beach

This information is provided by the candidate
Six key issues I would address include:
  • Late night disturbances and noise in neighborhoods surrounding the Pier.
  • Inadequate parking.
  • Opening City Hall 5 days per week.
  • A "Greener" Hermosa.
  • Citywide Wi-Fi.
  • Better communications and more productive use of City staff via updating the City's website.
Six key issues I would like to address include:

  • Late-night disturbances and noise in neighborhoods surrounding the Pier. I would work with law enforcement to increase neighborhood police patrols. I do not support radically reducing restaurant and bar business hours, but would ensure that all establishments honor their conditional use permits and licenses.

  • Inadequate parking. Our tight parking situation warrants building a new split level lot on City property that can used both by permit-holding residents and visitors.
  • Opening City Hall five days a week. Residents deserve to have access to the City services a standard five days per week. I would implement a staggered four ten-hour work week.

  • A "Greener" Hermosa. I am in the process of handing out energy saving light bulbs while introducing myself in Hermosa neighborhoods. To help minimize our carbon footprint, I would encourage the use of existing Beach Cities Transit and other mass transit via a campaign to raise community awareness. I would explore the possibility of converting even more of the city's vehicle fleet to alternative fuels, such as bio-diesel. I would also continue Hermosa's close relationship with the various environmental organizations committed to keeping our oceans and beaches safe and clean.

  • Citywide WiFi. I would support it provided it will be implemented with little or no cost to residents. I believe it would effectively make both our schools and our citizens more informed and productive.

  • Better communications via the City website. Upgrading Hermosa's city web site will allow easier access to city information and services and will enable better communications between residents and city personnel, which are key to good government.

You may not agree with all of my ideas, but I promise that you will agree with my work-ethic and my commitment to being prepared for Council meetings. I am a good listener and seek out many points of view before making decisions. I have the time, the passion, and the leadership ability to be the type of councilmember you deserve.
Now that I've introduced myself, I encourage you to share your views with me at my website: http://www.michellekeegan.com, or at my email address: michelle-keegan@hotmail.com. I will respond to your questions to the best of my ability. I am listed third on the Nov. 6th ballot and respectfully request your vote to enable me to tackle these issues.

Sincerely,

Michelle Keegan
