Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Rocco J. Polidoro

I strongly believe in "checks & balances" and the two-party system. Both are the cornestone to good govertment. Unfortunately, we do not have either one in Delaware County. The County voters have not elected a democrat to County Council in the last 32 years. Now the republicans would say, well that's what the majority of the voters decided in those last 32 years. All five seats have been republican seats in all of those years. I understand that concept and in a perfect world that would be acceptable according to the rules of our democracy. However, being a good person, or a good oranization, is doing the right thing when no one is looking. And no one has been looking or watching the five republicans on Council in those 32 years. Until now ! If you go on-line and view the 2007 Budgets of Bucks, Delaware and Mongomery counties, you will see something disturbing. In addition, I challenge you to view the 2006 US Census Bureau estimates of population for these 3 counties. And this is what you will learn. #1 Montgomery County ( Montco ) has 220,000 more residents than Delaware County ( Delco ). But Delco spends $103 Million more than Montco. #2 Bucks has 67,000 more residents than Delco but Delco spends $112 Million more than Bucks. #3 Even though Montco is 40% larger than Delco, Delco employs over 700 more employees than Montco. And, #4 even though Bucks is 12% larger than Delco, Delco employs over 1200 more employees than Bucks. Who is paying for these extra jobs--you. And when I ordered the list of all of the County employees under the "Right to Know" law, I saw many of the political-patronage jobs, paying the recipient, anywhere from $10,000 to $30,000 more than their counterpart in the same department at the other counties. My friends, not only is it good to have a democrat on County Council but its critical for the future and the reputation of our county to elect democrats to County Council this November. And I feel that I could win in November but I need your support on May 15th. I have earned the endorsement from the Phila Inquirer and the Sierra Club of SE Penna. And I have earned the support of Congressman Joe Sestak. If elected to be one of the three democratic candidates on May 15th, I promise to campaign hard up to November 6th and be one of the first democrats elected to County Council in the last 32 years. Thank you.
