WHERE DOES PETER YAO STAND ON THE ISSUES?
Budget Management

  • Supports plans to cut back on city expenses without harming essential services such as police, senior programs, and low-income assistance
  • Work to resolve the multi-million dollar under-funded employee pension obligation
  • Work to replace obsolete buildings and avoid mortgaging our children's future by instituting a pay-as-you-go budgeting process

Water Rates

  • Demand a rate rollback
  • Act aggressively for equitable water rate policies
  • Develop active programs to conserve water

Hillside Protection

  • Supports the Claremont Wildlands Conservancy approach
  • Supports an aggressive plan to protect the remaining hillside

Claremont Redevelopment

  • Improvement of Claremont's infrastructure is my highest priority
  • Improve traffic flow on Indian Hill, around all schools and colleges
  • Encourage environmentally friendly and resource efficient policies

Affordable Housing

  • To promote an economically diverse community, I believe we must continue to increase our ownership and rental units

Town/Gown and City/School Relationship
  • Work to make the Village more attractive for students
  • Expand the Town/Gown Task Force to deal with mutually beneficial issues
  • Promote joint services, i.e. share City Yard space with Claremont Unified School District

Mining

  • Discourage ANY mining in Claremont.

Parks

  • Provide adequate park space for playing fields to accommodate youth sports
  • Make park expansion our next high priority city project

Medical Marijuana

  • Create zero access opportunity for recreational users
