A LIFETIME OF SERVICE: First Sergeant Martin Morones' exceptional meritorious service in the United States military of 32 years started with the Marine Corps in 1965 and will soon culminate in retirement from the United States Army Reserve in April 2007. He began his career of military distinction in the waters and jungles of South Vietnam in 1966-67. In 1980, Martin Morones joined the Army Reserve and established his passion for the care of soldiers at a reception battalion. His various assignments of increased responsibility spanning many years of bravery and outstanding performance have set a tone for devotion to duty and patriotism that has rung continuously throughout the careers of the thousands of soldiers that have passed through the gates of the 6218th Reception Battalion. Martin Morones became a First Sergeant of the 63rd Regional Readiness Command Headquarters (HHC) in 2002 and has never slowed down. He took this headquarters company of over 400 soldiers from three states under his wing, keeping the HHC at the highest readiness posture. First Sergeant Martin Morones has served his country as a combat veteran and the Army at the highest level. He knows and cares for his soldiers and continues to make a difference too large to measure. He is everything that a senior non-commissioned officer (NCO) and citizen-soldier is expected to be and will be a city council member who will listen to the needs of Pico Rivera's residents by a code of honor, integrity, and service.

AWARDS: Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Ribbon, Army Reserve Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Non-commissioned Officer Development Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

EDUCATION: El Rancho High School in Pico Rivera and Rio Hondo College in Whittier.

FAMILY: Commonly referred to as "Marty" Martin Morones has lived in the city of Pico Rivera for 57 years. He has 3 children, 16 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. He is 59 years old. His wife is Erlinda Morones. His parents are Martin and Bertha Morones. His devotion to his family, his country, and his military career is a testament to his steadfast belief in family and military values. He puts loyalty first.

A MATTER OF HONOR: Martin Morones' extensive community and military service was recognized by being elected Post Commander of his Veterans of Foreign Wars Post for 5 years. He earned the coveted "White Hat" award from the VFW; the highest award bestowed upon any VFW member. He was president of the Veterans Council for 2 years. As a resident of Pico Rivera of more than 50 years, Martin Morones is ready to take action on the Pico Rivera City Council and will continue his tradition of strength and service to ensure a more cooperative, responsible, and efficient city government.
