A resident and active member of the West Hollywood community since 1964, Mayor Pro Tempore Guarriello is a staunch advocate of equal rights, affordable housing and rent stabilization.

Guarriello co-founded the West Hollywood Community Housing Corporation and served on the Housing Corporation's Board. He was also a member of the Coalition for Economic Survival Steering Committee and Councilmember Abbe Land's appointee to the city's Rent Stabilization Commission. As Mayor, Mayor Pro Tempore and Councilmember, he has worked tirelessly to preserve quality of life, balance the needs of the city's businesses with those of residents and enhance city and social services.

To revitalize the Eastside, Guarriello formed the Eastside Redevelopment Agency. The La Brea Gateway was its first major project. He was also instrumental in negotiating the transfer of ownership of Santa Monica Boulevard, which later underwent a major rehabilitation. In efforts to ease gridlock and ensure safety along Sunset, he authored the No Cruising Ordinance which has proven to be a key tool in the Sheriff's Department's efforts along the Sunset Strip.

A veteran himself, Guarriello initiated the West Hollywood Veterans Memorial Task Force to create a permanent Veterans Memorial in West Hollywood to honor all who have served, regardless of sexual orientation. Guarriello also represents West Hollywood as a Director and Chair of the County Sanitation District 4, serves as the City's delegate for the Southern California Cities Joint Powers Consortium, is a delegate to the Joint Powers Insurance Authority and has served as a Commissioner on the County Public Library Commission.
