We need to ensure there is enough water to serve us into the future

By Shenna J. Moqeet

Candidate for Director; San Gorgonio Pass Water Agency

This information is provided by the candidate
We need to know that there are adequate water supplies for current and future residents beyond the next twenty years. " Paper water" is just that, merely a promise on paper that there is enough water available through current and future planning to ensure new development can be built. I believe we need to go beyond such paper promises.
Reality of sufficient water supplies means obtaining and maintaining water from as many sources as we can. The State has made it clear that water contracts on the pipeline can be changed according to the needs of the State. In a drought, that could mean living on very little water if our major source has been supplied from the pipeline.
I think SGWPA is certainly going in the correct direction by building recharge ponds and looking into injection wells for our overdraft basins. However, I believe we need to see more real water within our basins before we sell paper water to allow huge developments to come in. I am not against development but I think the water issue is essential to the quality of life we have enjoyed here in the past, and hope to enjoy into the future. Our water resources must be managed well.
