Councilmember; City of Pacific Grove; Full Term

1937-1959. Born and raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Father was involved in the insurance business and Ron was the middle of three sons.

1955-1959. Attend St. Joseph's University and graduated with a degree in Industrial Management/Marketing. Following graduation and following his fathers footsteps joined the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company as an agent. After a little over a year he was promoted to Sales Manager which then required him to move to Philadelphia proper.

1959-1966. Continued work as a sale manager and was them promoted to a regional supervisor for Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio. This promotion required him to move to Pittsburgh.

1967-1970 Promoted to Agency Manager and moved again to Kenosha, Wisconsin where he remained for three years. While in Kenosha he won two Presidents Citations from the John Hancock Company.

1970-1975 Ron was given a much larger agency and more responsibility, which caused him to be transferred to Toledo Ohio. While at this post he was again awarded 3 Presidential Citations from the John Hancock company.

1975-1980 Promotions continued and he was then transferred to the West Coast as a regional Vice President.

1980-1996 Ron continued to manage various sections of the Western United States until retirement in 1996.

Upon retirement he and family moved to Pacific Grove. Upon settling in Pacific Grove he became involved in a variety of volunteer organizations.

  • Served on United Way Board of Directors.

  • Docent for Point Pinos LightHouse.

  • Served as a docent for Bay Net on the Recreation Trail.

  • Active in St., Angeles Church activities and serve as a member of the Finance Committee.

  • Member of St. Angeles Pastoral Council.

  • Founder of St. Vincent de Paul Thrift shop in Pacific Grove where he continues as a volunteer manager. He has volunteered for this activity for the past 7 years.

  • Acquired the Seaside, Ca St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Shop and brought a struggling operation into a profitable position while continue to help the less fortunate. Ron still donates time to both thrift shops plus works actively in the distribution of food and other charitable programs through St. Angeles Church.

  • Member of the Pacific Grove Economic Advisory Committee for the past 7 years.

  • Elected to the Pacific Grove City Council in 2002.

  • Member of the Board of Directors of Transportation Agency for Monterey Council

  • Member of the Board of Directors Monterey/Salinas Transit which provides bus service on the Peninsula.

  • Volunteer for Chamber of Commerce activates such as Good Old Days, 4th of July events, Triathlon, new business openings in Pacific Grove.

  • Serve as the Pacific Grove representative for the Fort Ord Reuse Authority.

  • Serve as a representative of the Monterey Regional Water Pollution control Agency.

  • Graduate Pacific Grove Police Academy.

As a member of the Pacific Grove City Council Ron is keenly aware of all the pressing issues facing the City and with his business back ground and appreciation of the virtue of common sense, he is ready to continue his work for the city and its residents for the next four years.

Ron and Carolyn Schenk have 6 children and two grand children and are celebrating 31 years of marriage.
