By Jerry Droz

Candidate for Mayor; City of Eureka

This information is provided by the candidate
stop opening more and more shelters throughout , Eureka without getting the approval of the people first .
There are practically shelters of one name or another on every block in this City and it's even beginning to escalate into the County . These shelters are even causing renters and even some homeowners to move into another area .The RCAA seems to think they can put more & more shelters in , Eureka without asking us , the taxpayers if we even want them here . The people whose money this is should decide if we want them here , not the RCAA or any elected official . We cannot afford to house every displaced person in America and that's where we've been going . These people should be monitored and a criminal history checked before they are put into our neighborhoods at the expense of us taxpayers.
The City has decided to open up Motels in violation of zoning laws or ordinances to house entire families. Motels were never intended for permanent occupancy and so now we have entire families ( example : The Pine Motel and Serenity Inn ) in sub - standard living conditions , no kitchen , no living room , no rear door for a fire escape , no dining room , no porch ,no bedrooms , with one closet for all their possessions . Without the peoples approval they also placed Children in harms way....next to a major highway . This is wrong .
