Mary Jung has been a loyal Democrat since first becoming active in Democratic politics in Ohio during the McGovern for President campaign in 1972. Inspired by his anti-war message and plans for universal health care, she signed on to the campaign as a precinct volunteer.

Mary spent most of the 70's organizing professional women in the workplace (the pink collar ghetto) and volunteering and staffing a number of Democratic candidate campaigns and ballot measures. She took time off in the 80's after several cross-country moves and dedicated herself to being a full-time mom when her son was born in 1987.

Mary became active in politics in San Francisco during the 1995 mayoral election. After volunteering and working on Mayor Brown's campaign, she was hired by the San Francisco Democratic Party as the Executive Director of the San Francisco Clinton-Gore '96 Presidential Campaign (Victory '96). Since then, she has involved herself in a number of campaigns as a senior staff member or as a volunteer.

She was appointed to the SFDCCC in October 2000 when a vacancy was created by the resignation of one of the elected members. She has since run two times and remained in her seat. This is her third time running for SFDCCC.

Mary was elected by her colleagues to the office of First Vice Chair in April 2004. She chaired the Outreach and Chartering Committee and visited numerous democratic clubs and helped over two dozen democratic clubs become chartered. In the process, she improved communications between the DCCC and the clubs and under her watch, implemented many changes to the club membership process and to the flow of information available between the clubs and the SFDCCC.

Mary is committed to activism and was presented with the California Democratic Party's Democrat of the Year Award in 2004 for kick-starting and working on the "No on Recall" campaign in San Francisco. Her accomplishments include the following during this current term:

- Spearheaded the largest Convention Watch Party (Kerry acceptance speech July 2004 at the National Democratic Convention) west of Boston.
- Led GOTV (get out the vote) activities in Las Vegas in '04.
- With the energy and positive attitude of Kerry/Dean activists, created a new Democratic Club in March 2005 - DemocracyAction - which focuses entirely on taking back the White House, Congress, and the Governor's Office through precinct work, voter registration, and phone banks.
- Helped create the SFDCCCs Permanent Precinct Captain Program.
- Managed the SFDCCC's volunteers during the November '05 Special Election to defeat Governor Schwarznegger's initiatives. She spearheaded the efforts in the Sunset/West of Twin Peaks area during the get-out-the-vote effort.
- Participated in fundraising for the local Party to keep the offices open and communicate the Democratic message throughout San Francisco.
- Advised numerous Democratic candidates for elective office and helped in their campaigns.

Mary holds a full-time job in the public sector and is the mother of a teenager who just graduated from high school.
