This information is provided by the candidate

I have 20 years experience as a freelance journalist writing for newspapers, magazines and websites including the San Diego Union-Tribune, East County Californian, and RawStory.com. My article in CityBeat on problems with electronic voting machines won a national journalism award from the American Society of Journalists and Authors. I also publish the Liberty Belle Log, a political newsletter.

Before becoming a journalist, I served as a legislative aide at the State Capitol for Assemblyman Elihu Harris and State Senator Bob Wilson, both Democrats. I've also volunteered on numerous campaigns, served as a delegate to two state Democratic conventions and an officer in the 77th Assembly Democratic Committee.

I am co-founder of East County United, a new political action committee dedicated to supporting qualified, ethical progressive candidates to represent our community. I also serve on the steering committees of California for Democracy and San Diego for Democracy, the state and local affiliates of Democracy for America, founded by Howard Dean. In addition, I am Media Coordinator for Democracy Festival 2006, a national conference to train progressive activists on how to spread positive messages to take back control of our communities and our country from the radical right-wing Republicans.

I hold a bachelor of arts degree in Environmental Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara. A native of La Mesa, I am married with two children in local public schools. My goal is to create a better future for all of us and our children.
