By Ross Signorino

Candidate for Council Member, 1; City of San Jose; Council District 1

My knowledge of the issues and a call for financial responsibility.
A resident of San Jose for over 30 years, I have been an activist for fiscal responsibility. We are in a time of suspicion and mistrust of government because of special interests, lobbyists, and backroom deals. San Jose needs transparency in government, a sense of ethics, an ombudsman for the best interests of the public.

I have attended all of the City Council meetings for years. That gives me a good understanding of issues such as the cost of the new City Hall, and the Grand Prix. Instead of going into adventures which risk taxpayer money, the City should focus on priorities. People have asked me about fighting crime against seniors and children. Also mentioned were human trafficking, domestic violence, red light runners, street speeders, gangs, and drugs. San Jose must support good police and fire departments

There will be many complex issues before the next term of the City Council: eminent domain, the environment, recycling, the Green Belt, li-brary hours, senior and children's programs, strategically placed medi-cal centers, prevailing and living wages, and reducing noise and conges-tion. What really makes a great city?

I hope you will let me serve you as I know I can.

Statement of Ross Signorino, candidate for Council Member + District 1, City of San Jose

Currently the Redevelopment Agency is using the minimum (20%) required amount of its funds for housing. It is time for the Agency to stop speculating with funds and have businesses stand on their own.

A wiser use of the funds would be to foster housing in areas which have good public transit.
