Mission Statement

The mission statement of the Alameda County Assessor's office is to provide timely and accurate assessment services in a manner resulting in fair and equitable treatment for all Alameda County taxpayers. Assessor Thomsen's expectations for the department include maintaining quality assessments in a cost efficient manner while providing the best possible public service. To accomplish these goals the department acted on the following projects.

In 2004,the Assessor's office implemented a state of the art assessment management computer system that has already increased production levels, initiated several efficiencies, and enhanced accountability in the department. The office will continue to further improve its operation as further suggestions and ideas are presented by staff.

In 2005, Ron joined with 34 other California County Assessors (there are 58 counties in the state), to share the cost of building and implementing a new system to streamline business filing requirements, to facilitate department processing, and to eliminate duplication of taxpayer's efforts where they have property in multiple counties. An electronic filing system is also being developed for all business taxpayers so they may file their annual statements electronically. Our goal is to have these completed within the next year.

Through 2005 and into 2006 the Assessor has worked with other Alameda County agencies in yet another cost sharing venture. A geographic information system is being developed that will assist the departments with their duties and better serve the public with their inquiries.

The department, with Assessor Ron Thomsen's leadership, will continue looking for ways to improve its product, utilizing cost effective management and serving the public at the highest level.
