MEMBERSHIP AFFILIATIONS

As your elected Assessor, Ron Thomsen is an active member of the California Assessors' Association. This association promotes cooperation between assessing officers in California; improvement of California assessment procedures and laws for the public good; and liaison with the State Board of Equalization and the International Association of Assessing Officers. He has recently served on its Executive Committee and is the Chairman of its Legislative Committee.

Ron is also a member of the Bay Area Assessors' Association and in 2004 proudly served as its President.

Ron Thomsen is a member of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association. Mr. Jarvis co-authored an initiative to protect property owners from huge increases in taxes and gathered enough supporting signatures to place it on the June 1978 ballot. This measure, Proposition 13, was passed overwhelmingly by the voters.

In 2003 Assessor Thomsen received recognition from the International Association of Assessing Officers for his 20 years of continuous membership signifying a high degree of support for professionalism in the field of property tax administration. This organization's mission is to promote innovation and excellence in property appraisal, property tax policy and administration through professional development, education, research and technical assistance.

In 1993 Ron earned the Advanced Appraiser's Certification from the California State Board of Equalization signifying his high level of appraisal knowledge.

Mr. Thomsen has earned his Bachelor's Degree, is a member of the Society of Auditor-Appraisers, the California State Sheriffs' Association, and the Martin C. Kauffman 100 Club of Alameda County. The latter organization provides support to families that have lost a peace officer in the line of duty.

He is a member of the Commonwealth Club of California. This is the oldest and largest public affairs forum in the nation and covers topics ranging from politics, culture, society and the economy.

Ron is also a member of the Economic Development Alliance for Business which promotes in part, regional leadership and collaborative solutions to address East Bay infrastructure challenges that include workforce, transportation, housing and energy. It also increases public awareness and understanding of complex regional issues affecting the East Bay and encourages participation in the development and implementation of solutions.
