Crime

By Tys Sniffen

Candidate for Supervisor; County of San Francisco; District 5

This information is provided by the candidate
We can improve the quality of life and reduce the safety concerns we all feel in District 5, and SF as a whole
We need to support our police on two main fronts: in the community, through continued community policing programs, and through financial and political support of our District Attorney. Community policing can focus on the many types of 'quality of life' crimes. The District Attorney can focus on prosecuting violent criminals. We also need to rebuild the foundations of the communities where violent crime is spreading, through economic development, better education, and stronger families. Action Steps:

I will support District Attorney Kamala Harris in providing her resources and support in prosecuting violent criminals and perpetrators of domestic abuse here in San Francisco. I am against the death penalty and fully supported her decision not to seek it against the alleged killer of Officer Espinoza.

I support adding more officers on foot, police on bicycles, and on motorcycles to patrol District 5. I will fight for federal, state funding, and local funding to allocate funding to provide the necessary resources to our local Police stations to implement this plan.

I support changing the border between Park and Northern Police Stations to Divisadero so that response will be faster and more efficient to responding to concerns and needs of District 5 residents. Right now Northern Station's responsibility stops at Steiner and that should change immediately.

I will implement and strengthen already existing community policing programs in District 5 and beyond to empower our community in reducing crime. As Supervisor, I will fully support Northern and Park's current programs to foster the relationships that is necessary to make our neighborhoods safer. Bringing law enforcement and the local community together is an essential component in making our neighborhoods safer and our kids away from violence.

I believe we can reduce crime by strengthening our local economy and helping San Franciscans find jobs within our neighborhoods. By helping and supporting small local businesses within our community, we will be empowering them with a sense of ownership and respect for their neighborhoods and corridors. More local foot traffic means a safer environment for all.

We must empower our City schools, give them the proper funding and tools, to combat the factors that lead to crime within our youth and beyond. Education is key. It provides opportunity and hope to individuals. I will dedicate time and energy in working with our child and youth service programs to make our community safer and families stronger.
