Candidate for
Supervisor; County of San Francisco; District 5

This information is provided by the candidate

As District 5 Supervisor, I will:

Tackle the Housing Crisis

I know how to create and preserve affordable housing for working families, seniors, artists and low-income people. As Supervisor, I will protect tenant rights and preserve rent control. I support the Housing Bond and the Housing Preservation Ordinance, which keeps 81,000 affordable, rent-controlled units from being demolished.

Improve Transportation

I am a leader in transit-first policy. As Supervisor, I will advocate for bus-coordinated stop light timing, more express service to downtown, and a transit impact fee, so that downtown businesses that benefit from MUNI will pay their fair share. I will fight to complete the city-wide bicycle network. Because people are more important than cars, I support traffic-calming and pedestrian safety measures.

Protect Parks and Open Space

I will make it a priority to secure our District's fair share of funds for park improvement and maintenance. I will also require the Recreation and Parks Department to include neighbors and park users in park management decisions.

Clean Up City Hall Corruption

I have championed efforts to eliminate cronyism and eradicate contracting abuses. Working with Matt Gonzalez and the Ethics Commission, I helped lead the fight against political patronage, and I will work to strengthen rules that eliminate waste and corruption.

Create Effective Homeless Programs

I have experience designing homeless prevention programs that stop homelessness before it happens. As Supervisor, I will continue to champion housing bundled with supportive services that address the underlying causes of homelessness - instead of criminalizing poverty - and help homeless people transition to a stable life.

Improve Public Safety

I am a long-time advocate of police reform and crime prevention. My proposals for change will help break the cycle of gun violence and drug dealing on our streets. I will push to set community-focused law enforcement priorities and work to make the police department accountable to the people of San Francisco.

Address Issues Important to Seniors

Two out of ten San Franciscans are 60 years of age or older, and the number of seniors in the Western Addition, Japantown, and throughout District 5 is going to grow even larger in the future. I took care of my grandmother in her last years, and I know that seniors and their families have unique needs and concerns that must be addressed, like affordable healthcare, accessible transportation and independent living.
