Bob Emery is a third generation Californian, born in Los Angeles in 1940. He attended high school in the Central Valley, graduating in 1959. He moved to Escondido and attended Palomar College and San Diego State University, graduating in 1964 and earning his teaching credential in 1965. Bob went on to teach middle school in Escondido for 36 years, retiring in 2001.

Bob met his wife Suzanne while attending SDSU and they were married in 1967. They moved to Poway in 1968 and their present home in 1969. They have two daughters, Krysty and Kathleen, who attended Poway schools and graduated from Poway High School.

Bob has always been active in the community and served on the Poway Planning and Development Program for ten years prior to incorporation. Bob was elected to the Poway City Council in 1980 and has served three terms as the apporinted Mayor.

Bob serves the City of Poway as its representative to the Metropolitan Transit System, is a member of the SANDAG Transportation Committee and served as chair of the I-15 Policy Advisory Committe that helped formulate the plans for the managed lanes to be completed by 2007.

Locally, Bob is the chair of the Senior Issues Committee, is on the board of the Friends of the Kumeyaay and both he and his wife serve as volunteer park rangers.
