Freeway Congestion and Traffic in Pleasanton

By Cindy McGovern

Candidate for Council Member; City of Pleasanton

This information is provided by the candidate
Traffic is impacted on I-580 and the I-580 west to I-680 interchanges for large portions of the day. PLEASANTON SHOULD NOT BUILD PARALLEL ARTERIAL STREETS to relieve this interstate freeway congestion. Freeway congestion will continue to increase as development continues in San Joaquin County, Dublin and the Tassajara Valley in San Ramon. Relieving freeway congestion is the responsibility of the State and Federal government, NOT the citizens of Pleasanton
I support:

  • Removing the unfunded West Las Positas Interchange from the General Plan
  • Not connecting Stoneridge Drive to El Charro or Jack London Blvd in Livermore.
  • The expansion of the partnership with Wheels public transportation to develop a program that hires bus monitors to help school children ride public transportation to school safely.
  • Working regionally to secure federal and state dollars to widen highway 84 and build a flyover from I-580 west to I-680 south.
  • Neighborhood traffic calming mechanisms such as signal coordination to move traffic smoothly through a neighborhood, signal metering on Vineyard Ave at Ruby Hill to discourage cut through traffic and the appropriate installations of speed humps.
  • Safe bike paths throughout Pleasanton.
  • The evaluation of I-580 freeway onramp metering.
  • Use the Hacienda Business Park effective transportation system model including: flex scheduling for employees, employees working from home, incentives to ride Bart; develop efficient and short shuttle service rides from public transportation in all appropriate areas of Pleasanton.
