Vernon Schabert is the current Chair of the Santa Barbara County Democratic Central Committee. He has been a member of the committee since 2000. Dr. Schabert has worked to improve the effectiveness of Democratic organizations in the county, primarily by improving Democratic influence in local media and by empowering local Democratic Clubs. He co-founded the Democratic Service Club in 2003, which grew to over 300 members in its first year, and he currently serves as it's treasurer.

Dr. Schabert has been actively involved with Democratic campaigns locally and elsewhere in California. He has been active in Get Out the Vote (GOTV) activities for successful campaigns for Brian Barnwell (SB City Council) and No on Recall (Gail Marshall). He has also been involved in campaigns for California Assemblymember Joe Simitian, Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher, and Clinton/Gore '96.

Dr. Schabert has become an expert in health care policy, especially in the areas of patient safety, healthcare quality, and prescription drugs. His clients have included the American Medical Association (AMA), the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). He also conducted numerous pharmacoeconomic and outcomes research studies, receiving scientific awards in the US and Europe for his work.

Dr. Schabert earned his Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Stanford University and his A.B. in Psychology from Princeton University.
