Quality Education Through Community Partnerships

By Michael L. "Mike" Hersek

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Bellflower Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Quality education and good schools are only possible when partnerships exist between parents and the schools that serve their children.
A quality education for every student is possible when teachers take responsibility for being dedicated professionals who maintain high standards of teaching excellence, when parents help take responsibility for their children's education by becoming more involved and working to promote the value of education with their children, and when students are responsible and accountable for their own behavior. The Board of Education must respect parents, teachers and taxpayers, while also providing the resources to reduce overcrowding, and improve facilities. All these are necessary for a quality education. Community and business groups should also join with schools to develop mentoring, training, and outreach programs to give students pracitcal real-world skills and experiences essential in a competitve job market. All segments within the education community, the School District, need to believe that schools that are safe, clean, well-managed, and driven toward excellence are important to everyone. The children who attend and are graduated from our schools will to a great extent determine the future of our communities and our country.
