Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Samuel H. Digiacomo

Candidate for
Member, City Council; City of Sonoma

This information is provided by the candidate

I stand for:

  • Affordable Housing: Sonoma needs more affordable housing along with rational commercial growth. I believe this is the most pressing issue facing our community. This will lead to a better qualify of life in Sonoma.

  • Rent Control: We must protect our current affordable manufacture housing stock. As a council member, I will continue to be active in protecting this ordinance.

  • Council Pay: I support a modest salary for the council. This would be voluntary for members who wish not to take the pay.

  • Term Limits: Many citizens have a lot to offer by serving in public office. All who wish should have a chance to show what they can do. In the end, it promotes good citizenship.

  • Transportation: Mass transit does affect Sonoma! I believe we should actively support the rail line proposed from the north to our neighbors in Marin County. I firmly believe Sonoma should support a Hydrofoil Craft from Marin to San Francisco to remove traffic from Hwy. 1o1. We will not be able to build ourselves out from auto traffic on 101. We must think our way to solving this problem.

In my six years in Sonoma, I have learned that this is a proud City and it has a lot to be proud of. But, you cannot be a proud citizen of Sonoma unless you allow affordable housing for all of its people. You cannot be a proud citizen of Sonoma until we have housing for its vinyard workers, nor can we be proud until we obtain fair and just wages for our caregivers. Together, as a Council Member we can do all of these things to make Sonoma a model city.
