Why settle for less when you can hire the best?

By Terri Cook

Candidate for City Clerk; City of Belmont

This information is provided by the candidate
My long-term commitment to the community and my familiarity with the organization make me a natural for this position.
This position is a continuation of my service to the community, and will allow me to serve Belmont on a full-time basis. I was born and raised in Belmont and have been involved in one way or another since the 1970's. I was a planning commissioner, was elected to City Council in 1997, served as Mayor in 2000, and was fortunate to be re-elected in 2001. I was involved in the recent library bond campaign, am a member of the Belmont Historical Society, the Belmont Park Boosters, Friends of the Belmont Library, and a member of the Belmont Chamber of Commerce. I have had a positive influence on the Belmont community.

I am familiar with the dutes of the office of City Clerk, and I know the organizational structure of the offices at city hall. We have a number of new faces at city hall, especially at the department head level. I bring knowledge of the duties, continuity, and institutional memory, which will make the learning curve for this office much shorter.

I have an excellent, positive, and professional working relationship with the city manager, all department heads and staff, as well as the city council, which are critical to the organization. No other candidate for this office can claim this fact. The city clerk provides direct administrative support to the council, so that relationship is vital.

You have an opportunity to hire the City Clerk, your full-time eyes and ears at city hall. It's likely that most, if not all, the candidates can manage the day-to-day operations of the office. However, part of determining the right person for the job is establishing how she will best fit the organization in terms of interpersonal skills and working relationships. When you, the public as hiring manager consider all of these factors, you should come to the same conclusion that all the people on my endorsement list have come to realize -- I am the candidate who will best fit this position. So why settle for less when you can hire the best?
