PARKS & RECREATION

Residents in Alexandria's northwest Corona neighborhood were successful this year when the Parks and Recreation Commission placed a long-abandoned park construction project back on the city's five-year capital improvement program.

Alexandria would seek grants or possible park assessment districts, given residents' support, to get money for construction and maintenance of parks.

He would also like to see partnerships between the city and Corona-Norco Unified School District to open campuses for recreational activities.

"That's been done successfully in other areas, and it could be done here," said Alexandria, who coaches his son's AYSO soccer team.

TRAFFIC

Alexandria wants Metrolink trains running more often and at convenient times to encourage more people to use public transportation. He also thinks that bringing more companies to Corona would help solve the traffic crunch.

"We need to create more jobs in Corona so people won't leave here," Alexandria said.

Working with county and state officials to create another major road linking Riverside and Orange counties is another of his goals. Alexandria likes the idea of a tunnel through the Cleveland National Forest, but environmental and feasibility studies need to be done.

"I'm very excited about the tunnel," said Alexandria. "We have the technology to do it."

REVITALIZATION

Providing some incentives to get property owners to fix up run-down properties is one way to improve the image of the city's core neighborhood, Jorge Arturo Alexandria said.

"We've got to do more than landscape streets," Alexandria said. "We have to refurbish houses and businesses."

Alexandria wants to encourage more restaurants to open their doors in Corona so residents seeking entertainment and dining opportunities don't leave the city to spend their time and money in Orange County.
