If Huntington Beach does not have the funding for basic services then the citizens of the city can expect less from their elected officials. As an elected councilperson of Huntington Beach, it will be my top priority and mandate from the people who elect me to make certain the budget is balanced and properly funded. No item can be considered "sacred" from consideration. I want to work to secure the future of our city. I would expect each Department head to have this same goal. I will call on department leadership to justify each item in their budgets. "If you can't afford it, you do without." Lesson from my dad. I would also expect our municipal employee groups and unions to work closely with the City Council to advocate for legislation that would make certain our city gets its fair share. Unions also have a responsibility towards the people they serve.
