Smart Growth--A balanced approach to development and preservation

By C. Jim Moreno

Candidate for Council Member; City of Huntington Beach

I will work closely with staff, the planning commission and neighborhood associations to make certain each piece of property can be used for its highest and best use.
If we can land a man on the moon, why can't we plan for a safe and healthy city environment? I will work closely with staff, the planning commission and neighborhood associations to make certain each piece of property can be used for its highest and best use. Those that are deemed preservation acreage should be added to the roles of conservancy property: I will work with concerned citizens, property owners and regional governments to finalize once and for all the preservation of designated land and move on to other pressing city issues such as the quality of our beaches and fresh water sources. I prefer to see development of economic engines (businesses) that can employ our residents, cut down on the traffic, and keep sales within our city limits. I also want to use some open space for kid parks. My neighbors, and neighbors in other precincts, have had it with high-end residential development. Development of senior housing and stabilized mobile home costs are important issues for our city. These folks raised and took care of us, and I am proud to say; now it is our turn to care for that generation that sacrificed so much for us. As chairperson of the Citizen Participation Advisory Board, I learned first hand of the needs of our seniors, the abuses some suffer, and the growing population of folks over sixty that have found our city attractive. We are all going to be in the same situation in the near future, so it is in our best interest to secure the future of senior housing and services in Huntington Beach.
