Smart Voter Full Biography for David Forbes

Candidate for
Member, Board of Education; Alameda Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate

As a parent of two children in elementary school, I am deeply committed to the success of all children in Alameda's public schools. While a school PTA President, I initiated partnerships between east and west end schools that still exist today. As the current PTA Council President, I introduced the Keep Kids Alive Drive 25TM campaign to Alameda, worked with Pedestrian Friendly Alameda to introduce Walk and Roll to School Day, and have represented parents in many different capacities, including serving as a member of the Superintendent's Education Advisory Committee, which delved deep into the AUSD budget and helped develop funding priorities.

I also served on the steering committee for Measure A, the school district parcel tax. I currently sit as one of three members of the oversight committee that monitors the expenditure of the parcel tax funds. I am committed to increasing parental and community involvement within the AUSD. I feel strongly that in this time of state budgetary crisis, we need to have someone on the Board who has experience with the complexities of the District budget and the leadership to make the tough choices as well as identify new sources of funding.
