Olympic sized swimming facility

By Alex Dourov

Candidate for Director; Livermore Area Recreation and Park District

This information is provided by the candidate
LARPD is short-changing the community by building an inadequately sized pool.
According to the LARPD "Park and Recreation Planning Survey, taken by The Center for Community Opinion in March 2002, respondents communicated that: "there were too few pools."

LARPD is currently building a community center and a swimming pool. LARPD is shortchanging the community by building an inadequate swimming pool. The current plans call for a 25 yard wide by 35 meter long pool, which is a fine recreational pool. LARPD feels that this would be adequate for almost all competitive swimming needs.

What LARPD failed to take into account is that 6 months of the year is long-course competitive swimming season, requiring a 50 meter long pool. Competitive swim meets will bring recognition to Livermore and will also bring revenue to LARPD and to the local businesses.

On November 5, 2002 VOTE Alex Dourov for LARPD Board of Directors to help bring recognition and revenue to Livermore.
